Introducing………
India Health Report – Current Status and the Way Forward
Even as the healthcare sector composes one of the most significant elements of the social sector in the Indian setup, the country is facing serious challenges in developing sufficient capacities required in running an efficient healthcare system. To bridge the gaps in the present healthcare structure, the government is revamping its health policy.
To help shaping the new health policy, Indicus is preparing a report on the health sector in alliance with the faculty at Harvard School of Public Health which will serve as a reference document for decision makers, academicians, corporate sector and other stakeholders.
The Objective of the India Health Report is to:
| a. | Highlight the state of health of Indians – unequal distribution of health – across groups, regions and so forth |
| b. | Major reasons that underpin the inadequate progress on the health front with regard to improved health, financial risk protection and public satisfaction with health services |
| c. | Describe the way forward |
The Report would cover the existing status of the health sector as gauged by various indicators, the status of infrastructure, its quality and access, the special issues pertaining to different medical streams, and also the health sector inputs including human resources, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics.
In backdrop of serious challenges confronting the health sector, a larger role of the private sector to spearhead the capacity expansion has become imperative. Improvement in the regulatory and pricing regime that enables newer and cost- effective treatments to become accessible to all will be a theme across the report. The Report would explore and recommend feasible ways for Public Private Partnerships to ensure rapid development of health sector.
The Indian healthcare set up has excellent potential to emerge as a lucrative investment avenue for international as well as home grown companies. The Indicus Report would study the underlying market potential in health industry and the policy adjustments necessary to give thrust to industry.
The Report will also highlight the significance of better financing systems including insurance in providing a vital support mechanism to healthcare access in India.
