Can we develop agro-tourism in villages like this one?

Recently I had an opportunity to visit a few villages in Amravati for a study related to cotton cultivation. One of these villages is “Wadhna”, which is located at a distance of about 40 Km. from Amravati. According to the key persons of the village about 80% of the farmers are small and marginal in nature in terms of their land holdings. Krishi Vignan Kendra (KVK) of Amravati district had worked in this village on their then farm practices to enhance production and yield of the crops grown in the village. The farmers reported that though KVK trained them regarding new farm practices, they follow their own farm practices, which is a combination of those recommended by KVK and their own based on experience. Till a few years back cotton was the major crop grown in the village. Currently, the crops grown in his village include soybean, tuar (yellow pulses), wheat, vegetables etc. apart from cotton. A large number of orchards for oranges are also can also be seen. The modern irrigation facilities like drip irrigation, sprinkle irrigation have been adopted by the farmers. These irrigation practices are not only efficient in terms of watering the cropland but also save water to a large extent.

A couple of large farmers have also started fish farming with artificial ponds made in their land. In short, one can have an experience of agriculture practices and enjoy the rural environment together at their own comfort. The bonuses are clean roads within village, friendly and educated farmers along with the fresh food offered by farmer families. One can leave all the tensions of city life and spend a few days with all facilities in a lush green surrounding.
