It was 16th September, 2008. I got a call from Laveesh
(my boss at Indicus, though he doesn't like the idea of boss!) at about nine in the morning. He said, “Are you willing to present on ‘State of the States Report-2008’ in UNICEF tomorrow? I know you are not prepared and you haven’t really worked much upon it. Yet I invite you.” After a momentary break, I said “Yes, I would love to.”
We spent the whole day preparing and revising our Powerpoint file. I had a discussion with Deepa (my first mentor at Indicus) and we tried our level best to have a conceptual clarity on each minute aspect of the Report.
The magical day arrived. It was a morning with calm drizzling. We arrived the rooftop of the Obroy hotel at sharp 9.00 AM. Siddhartha (a loving collegue at Indicus), Deepa and me had a brief meeting before entering the auditorium.
We entered the hall. Wow! It seemed a microcosm of the world. There were people from USA, Europe, Africa and of course from India. It was an audience of about 50 people.
I was the lead presenter. I was simply awed by the opportunity to project my country before a global crowd who truly cared for India and the world. Almost everybody in the audience participated enthusiastically. At the end we had an open discussion hour. Our Indicus Team answered each of their queries to their full satisfaction. We won! They won!
We are happy that we grabbed the opportunity yesterday. It enabled us to make a difference today. Such is the pleasure of the journey of learning that I pray I don't reach the destination. Thank you God for this wonderful opportunity! Source: True Power is in Getting others to smile
